2022 Arteon Named TOP SAFETY PICK
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Names 2022 Volkswagen Arteon as TOP SAFETY PICK
Volkswagen of America, Inc. announces for the third year in a row, the Volkswagen Arteon has been named by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, as a 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK when fitted with the Adaptive Front-lighting System with dynamic cornering lights, and LED headlights.
For a vehicle to be chosen as a TOP SAFETY PICK, it must obtain a “good” rating in six crashworthiness tests, and no less than “acceptable” for headlights with no lower than “advanced” for both of the crash prevention tests. As far as the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon goes, it earned “good” ratings in the crashworthiness assessments and a “superior” rating for the vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention, which the Front Assist System is standard on all Arteon models. For vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, the Arteon acquired an “advanced” rating.
The Volkswagen Arteon some in three available trims for 2022, the SE R-Lime, SEL R-Line, and the SEL Premium R-Line. New for 2022 is a 2.0-liter TSI engine that generates 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is a jump from previous models that produced 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Replacing the eight-speed automatic transmission is the seven-speed DSG transmission with Tiptronic.
New 18-inch wheel designs are features on the SE R-Line, along with added front and back Park Distance Control and wireless charging in the cockpit. 4Motion all-wheel drive is now standard for the SEL R-Line, and this trim also has 20-inch dark graphite wheels available for add-on. As far as the SEL Premium R-Line trim goes, it’s the same premium level as the year before.
In addition to the other features listed above, the 2022 Arteon comes equipped with Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, which is aimed to warn drivers of possible frontal crashes with either vehicle or pedestrians. In some cases, the automatic braking assistance may occur. Drivers can be warned of potential critical frontal collision situations both visually and acoustically. The Forward Collision Warning symbol will be shown in the instrument cluster if the vehicle is driving below 18 mph and in the event of a possible collision.
An automatic jolt of the brakes can also warn the driver of potential crashes, and if the driver fails to apply the brakes, Autonomous Emergency Braking will be activated to help slow or stop the vehicle. If the driver does apply the brakes, but it is too light, the brake pressure is increased by the Braking Support system for extra reassurance.
There are other standard driver-assist features offered for the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon. These include features like Side Assist and Rear Traffic Alert. Standard for the SEL and SEL Premium trims is Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE which enables Adaptive Cruise Control Stop and Go, Travel Assist, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist with semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency. The Arteon doesn’t lack in the driver-assist department, with Park Distance Control, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Park Assist, Area View, and Light Assist.
With all of its safety and driver-assist features, there’s a reason the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has chosen the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon as a TOP SAFETY PICK.
