Driving the Atlas

When it comes to powertrains, the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas comes with one of two engines. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is the base engine and produces 235 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque and is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 is optional as an upgrade and develops 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque and is also paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is an option. When putting the Atlas into Tiptronic mode, drivers can shift manually, taking control of the driving experience and making it their own. The 2023 Atlas also has impressive towing capabilities when equipped with the V6 making it able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas offers one of the roomiest cabins in its segment, with more than enough space for everyone and their cargo. Buyers get a choice between a three-seat bench or twin captain’s seats for a walkway to the third row on most trim levels. There is plenty of legroom in the back seats even for adults, with 37.6 inches for the second row and 33.7 inches for the third. Cargo capacity is also impressive inside the Atlas, with 20.6 cubic feet behind the last row of seats, which can be expanded to a total of 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Seamless Technology

Technology features are abundant throughout the 2023 Atlas, with the base model having a host of features like heated front seats, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, keyless entry, and rain-sensing wipers. Also equipped in the base model is a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and six speakers throughout the cabin. The Atlas SE with Technology gets a configurable 10.3-inch digital cluster display, a three-zone climate control system, remote start, a hands-free power liftgate, and wireless charging. The SE has a larger touchscreen at 8.0-inches along with wireless App-Connect. Inside the Atlas SEL is an eight-way adjustable powered front passenger’s seat and heated steering wheel, while the SEL Premium R-Line goes all out with power-folding side mirrors, a 12-speaker Fender premium audio system, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
